Meet Capt. Ibrahim Sharif
Founder & Visionary Leader of Siata Academy NPC
Capt. Ibrahim Sharif is a fearless visionary, entrepreneur, and innovator who has revolutionized Black sport empowerment through his groundbreaking organization, Siata Academy NPC—the first Black cycling team in South Africa to win the SA National Road Championships and home to the first rider of colour to win the National Championships 2025.
As the founder and driving force behind Siata Academy, Capt. Sharif has combined his passion, expertise, and relentless dedication to create transformative and impactful youth empowerment through the sport of cycling. His inspiring journey is a testament to the power of humanity, entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and perseverance.
With years of experience in Aviation, Entrepreneurship, Sport, Political Influence, and Global Networking, Capt. Sharif identified the urgent need for a rehabilitation of Black excellence in sport development. Through Siata Academy NPC, he boldly stepped forward to address this gap—empowering youth from across South Africa and turning Black underperformance into Black excellence.
Under his visionary leadership, Siata Academy NPC has reached historic milestones, becoming the most progressive and best-performing Black cycling team in the country. His commitment to empowerment, leadership, innovation, and sport reformation has earned Siata Academy widespread recognition as one of the most successful, passionate, resilient, and dedicated teams in South African sport today.
The team is registered with Cycling South Africa Federation and affiliated with KZN Cycling. The team is one of the listed in KZN that do full charity development and high performance training for young riders from various backgrounds and respective race groups. The Team currently has 10 competitive riders who are all racing under their respective categories. Each rider is good at two sets of disciplines of cycling. Most of the team members have been on podiums in Track as well as Road Series and Provincial Championships, in various age categories. We have a full structure of team officials in our academy, which consists of two (2) Team Managers, Mechanics, UCI Level 2 Coach, a High Performance Coach, Doctors, and media marketing and support crew.

Team Siata academy supports young South African Riders from all backgrounds across the country and pay for all races, prioritising the previously disadvantaged Black young riders who cannot afford the equipment and other items required for cycling.
Team Siata academy also provides race entries, accommodation, transportation, meals, equipment, medical and other basic needs for their team members who come from afar and in need of such supplies to reach their maximum potential.
